Change to google public DNS servers for IPv6 and ipv4 in Windows

Are you using IPV6,here is how to How to Change to google public DNS servers  to boost your internet speed.IPV6 is a 128 Bit address and its settings differ form normal IpV4 configuration of dns.This procedure also applies for changing dns address in IPv4.

Advantage of using Google Public DNS servers :

#You can increase your internet speed and get updated DNS information by changing to Google Public DNS servers.

#Reduce dns propagation time to your dns server by changing to google DNS server.This will be useful for webmasters for viewing and working their newly bought domain name (website with new domain name) within few hours before the dns propagation gets completed.

How to Changed and Configure your DNS settings in IPv6 and IPv4 to Google DNS :

Google Public DNS  addresses for IPv6 are

  • 2001:4860:4860::8888
  • 2001:4860:4860::8844

The Google Public DNS addresses  for IPv4 are

  • 8.8.8.8
  • 8.8.4.4

You have to change to these dns addresses to access google DNS servers instead of your old ones.

Note:Note down the old dns server address you were using to revert back if necessary

Change to google Public DNS In windows-IPv4 and IPv6

1.Go to Control Panel>>Network and Internet and then choose  Network and Sharing Center>>Change adapter settings

2.Choose a connection for which you want to change

There are two connections 1. Ethernet connection 2.wireless connection

3.To change  Ethernet connection,right click on Local Area Connection, and select  Properties

4.If you want to change DNS settings for a wireless connection, right click on Wireless Network Connection, and then click on Properties.

5.Select  Networking tab , under  This connection uses the following items, select Internet Protocol Version 4 or 6 (TCP/IPv6)  as shown and click on properties

6.Select the advanced tab and choose the following DNS address and enter the Google DNS IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 if you use IPv4 and for IPv6 use 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844

7.Then click on the OK button.

8.You have changed to Google DNS server successfully.

9.For setting up Google DNS server for other networks do the same.

  1. I don’t think it will make any changes to the internet speed. Atleast, I haven’t experienced any change. The speeds are controlled by ISP’s. I wonder if we can make any changes to it. But, Google’s DNS may help in loading the site faster by fetching it earlier.
    I only use it when some website doesn’t loads for me due to DNS issues. I don’t use it for my regular connection.

    • Ya but your current dns server may take a longer time to respond which may slow your connection..By using Google DNS you can get the latest dns Information while changing or setting up a domain name to your site..

  2. In my country I was unable to open blogspot site for DNS problem of the internet provider and I changed the DNS as you shown and it was fixed, thanks nice post, keep rolling
